adjusting themselves to regain ability to infect mutated bacteria (Weitz et al. 2005). Another major drawback of phage technology is the dif culty of getting phages to kill mesophilic and psychrotrophic microorganisms in a food product stored at refrigeration temperatures. Phage activity requires actively growing and dividing hosts, which for many mesophiles generally does not occur in a chilled stored product. Although psychotrophs can grow at chill temperatures, their growth rate is slow. For phage to be effective against spoilers their activity must be certain at low storage temperatures. Another issue is that large initial bacterial populations (3 to 5 log10 CFU/g) are needed for phage activity (Greer 2005; Hudson et al. 2005). Since phage attack on bacteria initiates upon contact, the probability of this encounter increases if populations of both counterparts are large. If spoilage bacterial numbers are low on a product due to the effectiveness of other control measures, then phage treatment may not be valuable. However, in the case of refrigerated meat spoilage, where generally large population numbers are present, phage technology may have merit. The nature of the environment can play a signi cant role in phage attack, with viscous product physically reducing the possibility of phage-host interaction. Other drawbacks include the possibility of phage-mediated virulence gene transfer between bacteria. Lysogenic conversion of lytic phage to temperate phage could result in host protection from other phages. As a last argument, the average consumer associates viruses with disease, and their perception of adding viruses to foods has yet to be investigated. To summarize, the biggest challenge in utilizing phage technology in modern meat spoilage control might be high phage speci city, which makes it dif cult to achieve the desired results of shelf life extension for naturally contaminated meat products. Genetic manipulation of available phages

While an MBE server is required to have a capture card present and configured, it need not be the first card defined (and therefore the default). Multi-tiered architectures can leverage roundrobin functionality from a collection of SBE servers containing multiple capture cards by using a straightforward procedure outlined in the MythTV HOW-TO guide subsection 23.3, entitled Advanced Backend Configurations. The basic premise is this: Given an imaginary three-node network, you have an obligatory MBE server and two SBE servers. The MBE server includes two capture cards used as failover devices, as you will see momentarily. Each of the SBE servers has only a single capture card. The idea here is that you want to establish one SBE as the default capture card device server when configuring the MBE so that it takes precedence over all others. Table 6-20 shows the three-way relationship between a single MBE and a pair of SBE servers.

Velocity of use is a building block of any serious fraud-prevention solution. Keeping track of the number of uses by different data elements allows you to spot unusual trends and run-up activity. Most major fraud-screening solutions have this type of functionality built into them. Velocity of use is good for detecting fraud rings, multiple fraud attacks from the same perpetrator, and some forms of identity morphing. The more data elements for which you can track velocity of use, the more effective the tool is. Good data elements to perform this test on are credit card number, address, phone number, e-mail address, and account number. If you establish accounts for your customers, perform velocity of use on the number of accounts associated with a particular individual.

potential business partners the opinion you form about them would certainly affect the way you choose to interact with them So let me ask: Given just what you now know about these two similar legal situations, what judgment have you formed about the character of these two companies Do you think that Jenapharm took a reasonable, prudent, and legally defensible position that represents a legitimate strategy to save the company from bankruptcy and that UMHS must be out of their legal minds for admitting liability immediately when mistakes are made Or do you think that Jenapharm made the situation all about impersonal legal rights, potentially alienating its customers by acting strictly within legal limits, while UMHS upheld its values and put the best interests of its patients rst and the risk of higher legal costs second Here is where things stand in the marketplace.
